Next, we come to our Track Car pick from the 2014 RM Auction at Amelia Island….
Lot 175: 1966 Lola T70 Mk II Can-Am (SL71/36)
Not only has this 580 horsepower, 5.7 liter V8 powered vintage Lola won the Legends of Motorsports United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC) in 2010, it has also won the Best in Class trophy at the 2011 Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance. Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too?
It’s present owner has just retired from actively vintage racing this British/American beast, which means that this historic car is not only gorgeous to look at, but also fully sorted for track duty.
During it’s 3 year historic race career since 2008, it has stacked up 6 “1st place overall and class victories, three 2nd places, and three 3rd places.” It was the last factory-built Mk II Lola Spyder built, and it is expected to bid between $295,000 and $395,000.
Just looking at it in the first picture above from the front view conjures up images of slipping behind the wheel of it and getting strapped in, then trying our best to drive the sticky Avon steam rollers off of it. This speed sled acts as an extension to your body when driven properly, and if that’s not enough, there’s even a passenger seat for giving thrill rides to the uber brave. Count us in.
