Video Recommendation: Ruf CTR Yellowbird at Nürburgring Nordshleife 1987

Watching this classic 1987 video of the Ruf CTR “Yellowbird” sliding sideways around Nürburgring Nordshleife never gets old for us. It’s 3.4 liter 6 cylinder twin turbo engine pushes out 469 horsepower, more than enough to propel the 2,580 pound narrow body lightweight around the track at mock ludicrous silly speed (we didn’t have an actual lap time to post..). We can’t think of any other car that looks so good being tossed around a race track, which probably has something (read:everything) to do with it’s rear engine bias. Funny thing is that if you were to ask a group of top ranked race car engineers to build a new sports car entirely from a clean sheet of paper, none of them would design one with the engine hanging out behind the rear axle, but for whatever reason beyond what our simple minds can comprehend, it just works so well. Enjoy the rest of your weekend while watching yet another viewing of this video, and note that we never once used the term “drifting”…
